Hidden Herbals

Herbal storyteller Amanda Edmiston invites you to share a herbal tisane or two as she leads you along a path of herbal stories connected to Glasgow, its natural environment and little known lore.
We will be exploring how stories and folklore often reveal our historical and traditional relationships with plants and place, and how these secretive elements can offer aspects of autonomy and gift threads of quiet environmental activism.
Using plant based pigments, recycled and plant-based papers, we will create our own folded zines, which have the capacity to hold our own knowledge and stories 'hidden in plain sight'. We invite you to bring along your own favourite foraged or kitchen herbs and plants, and anyfamily folklore or well loved recipes. There will also be plenty of plant material, resources and information available to help form your creation. You will leave with an insight into the plants you live alongside every day and a plant zine of your own to hide or pass on.

Beforehand....
It would be great if you look for plants in your local environment that appeal to you or that you regularly turn to in the kitchen or have an attachment to in some other way. You might like to think of a memory, story or recipe/use associated with that plant that intrigues you or that particularly resonates. If you can, bring along a sample of the plant to weave into your work on the day. Additional plants and herbs that you might like to use will be supplied on the day as well as lots of folklore/uses/resources to help inspire you.

A dyed in the wool storyteller', herbal writer and storyteller Amanda Edmiston, comes from a long line of plant people, writers and artists.
Amanda says: ‘I've always been fascinated by plants and the stories around them, I love how they reveal how we connect to each other and our natural environment through their use’.
Her work weaves together facts, folklore, traditional tales, history and herbal remedies using storytelling techniques to create a rich multi-sensory tapestry which audiences have described as being like ‘an enchanting and dynamic glimpse into a magical garden’.

There will be 20 attendees maximum, and the event will feature comfort breaks. During this event, attendees will participate in: Talk / Lecture, Group Discussions, Hands on activities, Sharing work that has been created, Eating/drink
