Hidden Faces and the Harvest

Hidden Faces and the Harvest brings together three traditional Asian dance traditions, Japanese Folk Dance, Indonesian Traditional Dance, and Korean Buddhist Dance, uniting these disparate traditions in theme and movement. Mystical dances performed with masks and veils and ancient traditions rooted in the soil invite the audience to experience the connections between these three vibrant dance forms.

Minbuza

Minbuza is the professional performing troupe within The Japanese Folk Dance Institute of NY (JFDINY). JFDINY was formed by Momo Suzuki in 1992 to perform, teach, and preserve the authentic folk dances historically performed by the working peoples of Japan. Some of Minbuza's achievements include performing at the Epcot Pavilion at Disney World Florida, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, annually at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Cherry Blossom Festival, as well as an appearance in Madonna's music video "Nothing Really Matters". Media Appearances include VICE TV's The Action Bronson Show (2018) and NBC's The Today Show (2020, 2021).

Saung Budaya

Saung Budaya Dance was established in 2006 by Amalia Suryani and their goal is to introduce Indonesian culture through dance and music to the Indonesian-American youths in New York City and more generally, to the wider public. The organization performs dances from all over the Indonesian Archipelago. Some of their accomplishments include the NY Times Travel Show, NYC Multicultural Festival, and numerous appearances at the United Nations.

Sutra Dance

Myung S. Lee is founder and director of SUTRA DANCE company. Their vision is to share Korean Buddhist dance with others. An accomplished Buddhist researcher of Bumpae culture (Korean Buddhist chanting dance, & music), she is the first dancer to bring Bumpae music and dance to Europe and North America. She has been producing, directing and choreographing over 30 traditional Buddhist productions in performance venues nationwide and internationally in South Korea and Russia.
