Hibernate and Create: Writing Into Winter’s Lull

Join local writer Anna Dempsey for two Sundays of writing your way into the cold.

We will be inspired by writers & poets such as Robert Macfarlane (The Lost Spells), Tove Janson (The Winter Book), Katherine May (Wintering) and more.

This course is designed for writers of all levels, from beginners to published authors. Together, we’ll explore poetry and excerpts from winter themed literature, then turn to the page to create responses. For fiction prompts, you'll craft imaginative responses, while journal prompts will invite more reflective and personal entries.

She was the runner-up for the 2024 Bridport Novel Prize and the winner of the 2019 Costa Short Story Award. She recently completed a PhD in Creative Writing and Creative Grieving at Bath Spa and Bristol University. .
