Heywood 1940's Day is back for one last year organised by Heywood Business Group on Saturday 20th June 2026. As usual a fun packed day has been organised, with something for everyone, for every generation to enjoy. Hold on to your hats… Here goes :)
On the Saturday morning Hill Street carpark encampment will see an array of military and vintage vehicles arriving for a 10am start including a full size replica Hurricane and Spitfire, military displays from lots of nations in the fight against the dark side, military vehicles, classic cars and lots more. Back by popular demand this year we have the Yanks here with a full weapons display on how we can keep the enemy at bay. All this to the back drop of Dapper Dan DJ spinning the vinyl with some great tunes 11-4pm.
Wave the Evacuees off as they head to the country by Vintage bus this year, from the Memorial Gardens at midday before they join the Armed Forces Parade at 1pm and their take part in the Annual Street Party from 2pm!
Don't forget to line the streets for the Town’s Official Armed Forces Day Parade, leaving from Tower Street, Heywood, at 1300 hours prompt. Leading with the official standards, Veterans and Cadets alike will be marching along with the Pipes and Drums Band around the town and returning to The Heywood Reform Club. Any vintage/military vehicles or persons wanting to join the parade are very much welcome to do so and should be there for direction from 12:15pm.
Stalls and a children’s vintage fairground rides will be back at the Peine Square outside Heywood Civic Centre. Whilst across the road at St Luke's, their NAAFI is open 12-5pm and the usual 1940s Day Concert kicking off at 12:15pm with music from The Big Swinging Thing and the rest leading on from 1:30pm after the parade. With acts from our community including Heykids, VOICE and much more, it's a fully packed, entertaining show for all the family, pick a deck chair on the lawn of St Luke's and enjoy.
Experience the Air Raid shelters over at Mike Goldrick Window Blinds, with their Home Guard and unexploded bomb display, open all day for selfies and music to dance along to with A-Train Swings, Wingtip Windy DJ-ing outside from 11am. Inside Tilly’s, open for food and drink will be the fabulous Lilly de Carlo singing 1-3pm.
Mission Street will be hosting our annual Street Party, after the Evacuees return home, from 2pm they enjoy a party of sandwiches, cake and arts and crafts to send home to their families!
Heywood Magic Market have live local talent throughout the day and for the bigger kids in the family, outside on their carpark you’ll find their usual funfair rides ready to go.
Wave off the military vehicles at 4:30pm as they drive around the town as the event comes at a close at 5pm.
