ABOUT THE SHOW: A young couple settles in for a spooky movie night only to realize the VHS tape they rented is cursed! They are whisked away to a strange dark realm, greeted by a creepy, yet lovable host, and are made contestants on the underworld’s hottest game show, “Hex Factor.” Six shadowy figures take on the roles of the greatest villains of all time and compete for who is the baddest of the bad in a smackdown singing competition. At the end of the show, the audience casts their vote for who they believe to be the most evil… OF THEM ALL!
AUDITION INFORMATION: Performers should prepare one musical selection of their choice, roughly 30-45 seconds in length.
If you are interested in the roles of The Host, The Co-host, or The Shadows, please select something that shows off your singing chops while keeping in the spooky/Halloween/villain theme. Selection can be from any music genre as long as it fits the theme.
If you are interested in The Boy or The Girl, please select something more traditional musical theatre/bubbly/sunshine and rainbows. Again, the selection can be from any music genre as long as it fits the theme.
You may sing 2 contrasting pieces if you would like to be considered for all of the roles, just please keep your selections to about 20 seconds each.
Please bring recorded accompaniment (karaoke track, YouTube video, etc) or be prepared to sing A cappella.
An audition accompanist will not be present.
We will not be holding callbacks for this production.
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:
The Boy - To play 16-20, male presenting - All American, high-school, “every boy.” A lover of jam music, horror films, and The Girl.
The Girl - To play 16-20, female presenting - All American, high-school, “every girl.” Sweet, innocent, and just the right amount of naïve. Hopelessly devoted to The Boy.
The Host - To play any age, any gender presentation - The frightening, yet lovable, master of ceremonies. The Dark Realm's premiere host with the most.
The Co-host - To play 20's-50's, female presenting - The Host's zombie sidekick. Maybe she was a showgirl in a previous life… She certainly thinks she is now. Speaks mostly in grunts and groans.
The Shadows - To play any age, any gender presentation - Six wandering spirits of the Dark Realm. Take on the forms of history's most devilish villains. Competing in a singing smackdown game show to determine who is the most evil of them all!!
Performers of all backgrounds encouraged to audition!
