About this Event
Roller Derby is a full contact sport played on quad skates and is proudly a fully inclusive community, welcoming all body types, genders, ages (18+), and is fully LGBTQIA+ inclusive!
We welcome women and anyone beyond the binary as laid out in the WFTDA gender policy, found here: WFTDA Statement About Gender » WFTDA Roller Derby Resources .
You must be aged over 18 YEARS at the time of the course to join us.
We are excited to announce our next 8 week rookie course starting in September, with a free taster session on September 6th!
The course will run on consecutive Sundays at our regular training venue, Everyone Active in Hemel Hempstead, but the taster session will be held at Everyone Active in Berkhamsted.
What you will need
You’ll need the following kit (kit can be borrowed subject to availability and £15 payment to be paid after the taster session):
- Quad roller skates
- a well-fitted helmet
- wrist guards
- elbow pads
- knee pads
- mouth guard (to be worn from the second course session, we do not lend out mouthguards you will need to source your own, we recommend Sisu)
*We have limited availability and loan on a first come first serve basis.
Free Taster Session!
The taster session is free! We will get you kitted out, rolling on skates and introduce you to what roller derby is all about!
After your taster session you will be sent a form to sign up for the course and make payment for the course of £40 per 4 weeks.
You will also pay your £15 kit hire fee at this time if you are borrowing kit.
How the course sessions will run
You will kit up from 11.45am, and then practice some skating basics until 2pm. At the end of the session you are welcomed to stay to see some roller derby in action until 3.00pm and have a chance to ask questions.
What next?
Next steps will be to integrate into our main training sessions alongside the rest of our League, where you will continue to train at your own pace.
You will gradually increase your skills until you are safe enough to begin full contact, our coaching group periodically meets to discuss new skaters progression towards being full contact scrim-ready!
When you secure your space, you will receive an email from us 1 week before the event. Please ensure to check you junk mail.
We look forward to skating with you soon!
We do also accept League members of any gender as on skates referee's and non skating roles. Please message us on our social media if you are interested in these roles!
