Join us February 15th at Noon for the Heritage Reels on the Lake - Documentary Film Series. It is co-presented by the National Film Board of Canada and The Muse.This Saturday's focus will be on Bush Planes and Wild Rice Harvesting. The three films have a combined viewing time of one hour.
Admission is Free. Come to the Lake of the Woods Museum as the films will be shown in the comfort of our boardroom.
We will be providing a wild rice soup to people that attend as two of the films focus on the wild rice harvest. Refreshments will also be provided.

Bush Pilot: Reflections on a Canadian Myth
1980 - 22 min
This short documentary offers a reflection on the development of the North, where towns are increasingly being remade in the image of the South and bush pilots are slowly becoming obsolete.
Rice Harvest
1980 - 11 min
This short documentary explores how the First Nations staple of wild rice is exported as a luxury food thanks in part to bush pilots. Follow the families of the Pauingassi band as they comb the reedy shores with brooms, paddles and baskets for manomim (wild rice).
Test Pilot
1954 - 15 min
In this short documentary, Fred Davis visits the De Havilland Aircraft factory in Toronto, circa 1954. He interviews two test pilots, talks to one of their wives, and goes for a ride in a new Beaver airplane.
