Africatown Heritage House is hosting its May 2026 Heritage Lecture Series event, a collection of speeches designed to touch on topics related to the Black experience, on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 5:30pm.ABOUT THE LECTURE: After more than 30 years working in African American History in Mobile, Sheila Flanagan is ready to talk about her experience in seeing Black history preserved, promoted and honored.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Sheila Flanagan, a Mobile native, is the retired Assistant Director of the History Museum of Mobile. In her twenty-one-year career at the museum, she served as Director of Programs and Curator of Minority History. Currently, she is the Manager Curator of the Historic Avenue Cultural Center and serves as the Vice president of the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Mobile African American Heritage Trail, the sponsoring nonprofit of the Dora Franklin Finley African American Heritage Trail and the Historic Franklin House and Gallery. She works with community-based projects focusing on preserving African American History. Sheila was also featured in the historic Netflix documentary Descendant and the documentary Medicine and The Movement: Story of Dr E B Goode.
The History Museum of Mobile and Africatown Heritage House invite the public to attend this FREE Heritage Lecture Series event.
