In this session, she will discuss Africatown Collective, a quarterly gathering of almost every faith institution and CBO in Africatown, which serves as a means to share information, update on one another’s work, collaborate on ongoing projects or new initiatives, and build camaraderie and unity.
ABOUT CHIQUITTA CLEMONS HOWARD: Chiquitta Clemons Howard, a native of Mobile, is a distinguished community leader entrepreneur, and advocate for Africatown. Alongside her husband, Lamar Howard, she has made significant contributions to the local economy and cultural preservation. The couple owns Africatown Freedom Tours, a company dedicated to educating visitors about the rich history of Africatown through guided tours of significant landmarks and narratives of the community's enduring legacy.
Mrs. Howard began her entrepreneurial journey in 2000 by launching a hospitality and special events business. In 2005, she expanded her ventures by establishing an income tax consultancy, which she continues to operate. In 2009, together with her husband, she opened a grocery store to serve the local community.
Her commitment to the community extends beyond her businesses. Mrs. Howard has held leadership roles in various initiatives, including serving as Vice President of the Mobile Police Explorers and working with the W**d and Seed Program. She also coached girls' basketball at Heart of Mary for several years. As a board member of Act.Out, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating and uplifting the Africatown community, she has been instrumental in fostering growth and development in the area.
Chiquitta Clemons Howard is a cornerstone of the Africatown community, tirelessly working to uplift and empower those around her. Her contributions leave a lasting legacy and continue to inspire others to take an active role in building a brighter future.
The History Museum of Mobile and Africatown Heritage House invite the public to attend this FREE Heritage Lecture Series.
