Come join us for a day filled with insightful discussions, presentations and innovative technologies at the Heritage Geospatial Symposium hosted by RIEGL. This in-person event will be held at York Venues: The Hospitium.

At this year’s RIEGL Symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the significant role geospatial surveys play in preserving, managing, and engaging with cultural heritage. The presentations will cover a range of topics, including the critical importance of choosing the right technologies, adhering to established guidelines, and leveraging advanced techniques to enhance conservation efforts.

Attendees will gain practical knowledge on how to make informed decisions when working with geospatial survey data and how cutting-edge technologies are transforming the way we experience history.

Info: Dave Foster - Managing Director of Riegl UK Ltd

Info: Former Geospatial Survey Manager for Historic England. Prior to retirement in 2021, Paul was the Geospatial Survey Manager within Historic England’s Geospatial Survey team which undertakes surveys of historic objects, buildings, sites and landscapes using a variety of geospatial technologies. With over 40 years’ experience in survey, Paul has built up extensive knowledge of image and laser-based survey approaches as well as the recent use of drones and Building Information Modelling (BIM) for heritage applications. Alongside publishing numerous papers on heritage survey, he has contributed to and co-authored Historic England publications on metric survey specifications for cultural heritage, 3D laser scanning and BIM for heritage. Whilst enjoying the life of a retired geospatial surveyor, he is currently supervising two PhD students who are undertaking heritage related geospatial research and has contributed to master’s level research for several other students.

Info: Andy leads Terra Measurement Limited as its founder and managing director. As an AssocRICS surveyor and a Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses alumni, Beardsley possesses a strong background in innovation and operations, and has over three decades of professional surveying experience. His company specializes in providing geospatial surveying, 3D visualization and sustainable data solutions across various sectors including heritage, construction, transport infrastructure, and mining.

Info: Keith is a landscape archaeologist with over 30 years professional and academic experience in cultural heritage and remote sensing. He is the national remote sensing coordinator for the National Trust and leads his own remote sensing and heritage visualisation consultancy, GeoLan3D.

Info: Kieron has oversight for the development and maintenance of appropriate data and technical metadata standards, including the Guides to Good Practice, to ensure that our standards reflect the needs of the designated community and best practice for preservation.

Info: Founder of OR3D, specialising in providing 3D laser scanning, reverse engineering and inspection products and services to companies and organisations both in the UK and internationally.

Info: At the end of the session, there will be an opportunity to visit The Yorkshire Museum complimentary to the Symposium. The Museum is a short walk across the Museum Gardens from the Hospitium.

Info: RIEGL will be hosting a social at a local York Public House where there is chance to have further informal discussions to conclude the day. For those that have indicated interested in the RIEGL social, drinks tokens will be provided at the facility.
