Come join us for a day filled with insightful discussions, presentations and innovative technologies at the Heritage Geospatial Symposium hosted by RIEGL. This in-person event will be held at York Venues: The Hospitium.
At this yearβs RIEGL Symposium, attendees will have the opportunity to explore the significant role geospatial surveys play in preserving, managing, and engaging with cultural heritage. The presentations will cover a range of topics, including the critical importance of choosing the right technologies, adhering to established guidelines, and leveraging advanced techniques to enhance conservation efforts.

From Capture to Archive: Geospatial Survey in Heritage Applications
Host: Paul Bryan, BSc FRICS [Retired]
Info: Former Geospatial Survey Manager for Historic England. Prior to retirement in 2021, Paul was the Geospatial Survey Manager within Historic Englandβs Geospatial Survey team which undertakes surveys of historic objects, buildings, sites and landscapes using a variety of geospatial technologies. With over 40 yearsβ experience in survey, Paul has built up extensive knowledge of image and laser-based survey approaches as well as the recent use of drones and Building Information Modelling (BIM) for heritage applications. Alongside publishing numerous papers on heritage survey, he has contributed to and co-authored Historic England publications on metric survey specifications for cultural heritage, 3D laser scanning and BIM for heritage. Whilst enjoying the life of a retired geospatial surveyor, he is currently supervising two PhD students who are undertaking heritage related geospatial research and has contributed to masterβs level research for several other students.
