About this Event
Today we are encouraged to recycle as much of our lives as possible; food waste, clothes, packaging, vehicles and more, but not when it comes to our buildings.
We may extend them or alter them in some way but rarely do we recycle them. In the building world this is known as adaptive reuse, and it is more common in Australia with government or big buildings. Example of this are the Rum Hospital which became NSW Parliament House and the Royal Mint which now houses a library and a museum.
You may have visited big projects like Eveleigh Carriage Works, Forest Lodge Tramsheds, and White Bay Power Station but this tour by bus visits some Marrickville buildings that have been reused, some not so far from their original purpose and others that have been completely transformed.
Meeting Point: Front of Marrickville Library.
