About this Event
The tour starts in the castle courtyard for an introduction to the history of the building, a place used as a court and Pr*son and has seen religious persecution, the Lancashire Witch Trials, and over 200 executions. Then we will head down the hill to the Judges' Lodgings- Lancaster's oldest townhouse and one of the city's best kept secrets.
Built in 1625 by Thomas Covell, the man who locked up the Pendle Witches, the building later became home to the Red Judges who travelled to Lancaster to decide the fate of those on trial at the castle above.
Please arrive 10mins before the tour begins.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This tour includes details of historical punishments including hanging, and objects connected to execution are on display.
