About this Event
Join Buffalo Street Books and OJI:SDA' for a workshop with herbalist Taylor Rae!
Our ancestors braided seeds, grew freedom gardens, and lived in reciprocity with the earth.
Herbalism as Resistance orients our relationship building with our bodies, the land, and our community as an act of resistance against a colonial state. We’ll explore these rich relationships while highlighting some of the medicines that have supported us through it all!
Taylor Rae is an herbalist, archivist, and clay worker who is passionate about rekindling the land relationships of herself and her communities. After earning a B.A in Environmental Science from Northwestern University with a research concentration in pollination biology, Taylor felt a deep longing to find ways of relating to the land that felt more ancestral. She answered this call with herbal medicine. Taylor’s land practice is rooted in combating the oppressive structures that harm us all, especially Black and Indigenous folks. Currently, Taylor is a practicing clinical and community herbalist and an herbal educator. She is moved by her desire to tell the stories of her lineage, create safety in holistic care spaces that are lacking for marginalized folks, and help her community find respite in the land once again.
is a local, non-profit organization working to expand Indigenous visibility, land literacy and good health by using innovative ways of sharing ancestral knowledge.
