About this Event

Join the University of South Carolina Beaufort’s Institute for the Study of the Reconstruction Era for the 3rd Annual Breathing Democracy Into Spaces, Spring Symposium: Her X Mark. This year’s theme celebrates the women associated with the First South Carolina Volunteers of African Descent – the first regiment of Black soldiers deployed into combat during the Civil War.

Enjoy presentations, exhibits and interactive discussions about the presence and impact women had during and after the Civil War and throughout the Reconstruction Era.

The two-day event is FREE and open to everyone! Lunch included on Saturday!
