Discover the lives and legacies of three remarkable Christchurch women on this guided journey through the historic homes of Dame Ngaio Marsh, Jane Deans and Kate Sheppard.
This unique day-long experience takes you inside Ngaio Marsh House, Jane Deans and Kate Sheppard House - homes rich with history, character, and story. These are the places where ideas were formed, leadership and movements began and creativity and stories were written.
Led by an three individual expert guides, you’ll enjoy an engaging and in-depth exploration of each woman’s life and legacy, brought to life through storytelling and place. With a small group size, the experience will be personal, relaxed and immersive.

Your journey begins at Ngaio Marsh House. Perched on the Cashmere Hills, this was Dame Ngaio Marsh’s home for 70 years. Filled with original furniture, artwork, and personal belongings, it offers an intimate glimpse into the life and creative legacy of Dame Ngaio Marsh. It’s a beautifully preserved space where her creativity and influence still feel alive.
Riccarton House, where you’ll be guided through the home of Jane Deans: a pioneering settler, businesswoman and community advocate. Explore the earliest settler cottage, explore her later family home and wander through the surrounding bush,, discovering how her leadership and environmental stewardship helped shape early Ōtautahi Christchurch.
Your last guided tour is of Next, you’ll be guided through Kate Sheppard House: the hub and heart of Aotearoa’s suffrage campaign. This uniquely significant home was the powerhouse from which Kate Sheppard led the fight for women’s right to vote. Reflect on how this place helped secure one of Aotearoa’s most important civil rights reforms.
