Tantrums, tears, meltdowns, or sudden shutdowns can leave parents feeling unsure of what to do next. This practical workshop hosted by counseling psychologist and child-focused play therapist Dr. Ru-Chi Yang, is designed to help parents of children ages 3-11 understand what’s really happening when their child is overwhelmed and how to respond with confidence, calm, and clarity.
Together, we’ll explore how children experience big emotions, what their bodies are communicating in moments of distress, and how parents can support emotional regulation in ways that actually work at home.
In this workshop, parents will learn about:
🩵 What distressed emotions look like in young children
🩵 The Window of Tolerance and how it influences behavior
🩵 How stress and big feelings show up in a child’s body
🩵 Age-appropriate self and emotional regulation skills for children
🩵 Practical, realistic strategies parents can use during emotional moments
🩵 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 & 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗠𝘆 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀 🩵
This workshop is part of Through My Eyes, a free, immersive mental health art exhibition running from March 13–23, presented by the Community Services Center in collaboration with Valerie Tsai. Featuring 50 anonymous stories and artworks from across Taiwan, the exhibition weaves together personal storytelling, professional mental health resources, and free bilingual workshops to foster empathy, reflection, and open conversations around mental well-being.
