Help shape the future accessibility of BACKLIT’s redevelopment project and share your perspective on inclusive visitor experience.
About this Event

All-In Leicester and BACKLIT are inviting disabled access reviewers to take part in an access review exploring proposals for BACKLIT’s future redevelopment project.

BACKLIT is an artist-led contemporary arts organisation, studio provider and registered charity based in Alfred House, Nottingham. The organisation is currently developing plans for a major capital redevelopment focused on improving accessibility, sustainability, public engagement and artist facilities.

At this stage of the project, BACKLIT is seeking feedback on proposed improvements to the ground floor and visitor experience before designs are finalised and construction begins. This is an opportunity for disabled people and people with lived experience of access barriers to help shape how the building may work in practice for future visitors, artists and audiences.

Event overview:

During the session, participants will hear about the redevelopment plans and take part in facilitated discussion around accessibility, inclusion and visitor experience.

We’ll explore areas including:

- Arrival and entrance experience
- Wayfinding and navigation
- Circulation and access routes
- Reception and public-facing spaces
- Visitor experience and inclusion
- Access beyond minimum compliance standards

The building itself is a former industrial site with access constraints that have developed over time. BACKLIT are particularly interested in understanding how future improvements can create a more equitable and welcoming experience for disabled visitors and artists.

No technical experience is needed — just your lived experience and perspective.
