Saturday Feb. 8 is the date for the 12th Annual Helena/Montevallo Gravel Fun Doh. The route will be a 65 mile loop from Helena to Montevallo and back with a mix of pavement and dirt road plus maybe a couple of trails. Route will the same as last year's with some fun jeep roads south of the Cahaba River down near Boothton. It is about 60% dirt and 40% pavement. Suitable for cross, gravel or Mt bikes with 700x38 or bigger tires. Start will be at Helena Elementary 187 Third St. rolling at 9:30 am. In Montevallo we will hit some cart paths and trails on the old golf course and maybe a short trail around the UM lake. After the lake we will stop at the store on CR 10 at about 45 miles. This route is very hilly, rough, may have some big mudholes and rocky loose up and downhills. If you have been looking for a beginner friendly gravel ride this is definitely not it. Usually there is an A group averaging 14-15 mph and maybe a B group. Ride time will be 5 to 6 hours. If you have not ridden that long this year maybe you should skip this ride.
