1981. A romantic comedy drama about a widowed bug trapper learns to open his heart to his guarded, older Irish neighbour.
About this Event

Helen of Roy is a new play by Robin Taylor Wright (Home for Boys, Don't You Dare Run Away) about a small town in 1981, and all the unlikely connections that happen within. Mixing awkward comedy with absurd romance, and all the heartfelt stuff in between, it's a dramatic reading of something fresh and new.

Although just a dramatic reading, OKTC veteran Kerry Hishon directs an incredibly talented team in innovative ways: Bronwyn Powell plays the sharp-witted but incredibly guarded Hellie O'Riordan, who constantly writes poetry never sent to her estranged husband back in Donegal; Patrick Hoffer plays the bumbling fortysomething humane bug catcher Roy, who develops a bit of a crush on his neighbour Hellie, even though he's navigating his own grief. Local rock legend Jenn Marino fills the void by narrating the piece with stage directions.

Helen of Roy is touching, funny, and not a long night at the theatre. All ages are welcome although there is some mild language and mature subject matter.

The show will take place in the Spriet theatre in Original Kids Theatre Company (Registration is free, but please bring cash (donation) for the team to split. Visit https://www.originalkids.ca for directions.
