Travel inside the workshops of northern Czechia, where glass beads and buttons are still being made using techniques passed down through generations.
Minnesota jewelry artist Andrea Turini traveled to Jablonec nad Nisou, a region long recognized as a world center of bead and button production, to document this remarkable industry firsthand.
🔥 FREE ARTIST TALK | 10 AM
In this cultural heritage presentation, Andrea traces the evolution of the Czech glass industry, from family cottage workshops to state-run factories under communism and the return to private industry.
Through original photos and video filmed inside factories and artisan home workshops, Andrea will show how glass beads and buttons are pressed, cut, polished and lampworked today. See and handle beads at different stages of production, along with a Czech button mold and finished examples.
Free and open to the public.
🔥 OPTIONAL JEWELRY WORKSHOP | Following the Presentation
Following the presentation, join Andrea for a one-hour hands-on jewelry design workshop using authentic Czech glass beads from her curated collection.
Choose to create:
• Earrings + Bracelet
• Earrings + Necklace
Workshop: $40 per person
Ages 12+
Limited to 15 participants
Workshop registration is required, and workshop participants must attend the 10 AM presentation. Email [email protected] to reserve your spot.
