Hebrew and Judaic Studies Workshop: Wine is Blood

Noam Cohen is a visiting lecturer in Hebrew Bible at New York University. Before coming to NYU, Noam was a visiting assistant professor in Modern Hebrew and Jewish Studies at Muhlenberg College (2024–2026).

At NYU, Noam teaches the undergraduate core curriculum course Cultures and Contexts: Ancient Israel, as well as graduate courses in Hebrew Bible, ancient Judaism, and Semitic languages in the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Jewish Studies.

Noam's research centers on gendered violence in the Hebrew Bible and other texts from ancient West Asia. His 2025 dissertation explored portrayals of spousal violence in ancient West Asia, and an ongoing collaborative project explores gender and violence in the Middle Assyrian Laws, a Mesopotamian law collection. Noam is currently working on a book project on the metaphor wine=blood, and is studying for WSET Level 3 wine certification.
