About the band: Heavy Weighs the King is Carmen Keigans and Brian Whitman, Orangeburg, SC natives who came up together in I Nine — signed to J Records / RCA, with "Same in Any Language" closing out Cameron Crowe's Elizabethtown — before the band dissolved and they stepped away from the industry altogether. A decade later they started again on their own terms: a duo, a new name, and a record sold straight from the band with no label in between. Rick Beato recently told their story on his channel — that record, Avidyā, is out now, only at heavyweighstheking.com.
Opening: Kalen Nash spent nearly twenty years in the music industry — lead singer of the psychedelic southern rock band Ponderosa, the synth-pop project Dega, and the folk duo Kalen & Aslyn — before stripping his life back to its essentials: returning home to Georgia, rebuilding his grandfather's cabin, and turning the small town of Comer into a gathering point for local creativity. His new record, A Thousand Lives, made with Grammy-nominated producer Gabriel Kelley, is spare and plainspoken — fingerpicked guitar, strings, and songs about choosing time over money.
All tickets are $30 general admission — and every advance ticket includes a free limited-run HWTK tee (pick your size at checkout) plus a digital copy of Avidyā. Seating is first come, first served, with about 100 chairs and standing room once they fill.
The Ticket + Vinyl bundle includes a copy of Avidyā on vinyl, reserved for pickup at the merch table.
