Back in High School, were you a geek, hippie, a rebel, or just one of the masses? Were you a jock, a cheerleader, or one of the "Cool Kids"? Or were you sitting on top of the world - a "HEATHER"?This March 10th and 11th, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, the Birdcage Theatre will be hosting auditions for Heathers, the Musical. This unapologetic dark comedy about surviving high school cliques and drama will be coming to the stage June 11th through the 21st. The show will be directed by James Huie, whose previous shows include Evil Dead: the Musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and producer for The Little Shop of Horrors.
If you intend to audition, please come prepared to cold-read selected sides from the script, and perform 1 minute excerpts from 2 songs - one song of your choice that highlights your singing ability and range, and one song, selected from the musical itself, from your preferred roles in the musical.
Auditions will be open to anyone of high school age and up, although performers under the age of 18 will require the permission of their parents/guardians to participate, as the subject matter does include references to sex, drugs, guns, and other adult themes. Certain roles may be restricted to performers 18 years or older, depending on their content and level of adult language. We strive to include as many performers as the script and stage allow, so the potential to double-cast or understudy roles is possible, should we have more capable performers than we have roles.
Please note: I typically choose sides with adult themes or content, to see how comfortable performers are with such content. If you are under the age of 18, and specify a specific interest in a role with such content, we will require parental/guardian permission for you to read for that role, and expect your parents to be present while you read for the role. We will not cast anyone under the age of 18 in any role their parents/guardians do not approve.
