Heather Paterson

We always had music in our home, and all of us studied instruments. I was active in music in school and in church and I was about 6 years old when I did my first paying gig. I drew tickets on blue construction paper, and sold them to neighbors for 5 cents. My father set up some lawn chairs in the backyard, the neighbors came over, I sang 3 songs, and was forever hooked by the performance life!

I studied classical vocal performance at Southern Methodist University, a degree only slightly more useful than a degree in Philosophy or Religions of the World. I taught voice lessons for many years and  have done a lot of gigging. Several of my career highlight and claims to fame: in college I was paid money to sing to a horse, I sang a duet with Neil Sedaka as part of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Pops Season, I sat in with the late composer/performer/arranger Bob Dorough and his group at a club in NYC, and I was named 2014 Jazz Artist of the Year by the Sammons Center for the Arts in Dallas. I still gig around the Dallas/Ft Worth area, and am honored to work with some of the finest musicians around.

I am so excited to be appearing in August at Cadenza, and excited for the opportunity to work with a fabulous rhythm section, Tom Snow, Bill Morrison, and Per Hanson.
