The moment the first guitar riff comes screaming out of the amps and frontman Tyler Gray takes the stage, audiences are transported back in time. Not only does it look like Tyler walked straight out of time machine dialed to 1989, his vocals are spot on and his ability to command the stage is that of a seasoned pro. Raised on the hair metal bands of the 80s and early 90s, he is the epitome of what a lead singer from that era strived to be, sexy, bold and confident.
Tyler and guitar player Sam Bean crossing paths, was no doubt destiny, their connection is undeniable, and Sam’s love for the hot guitar driven groove of Hair Nation, make them a perfect complement to one another on stage.
For several years Tyler and Sam performed together in another long standing SWFL band, alongside Heartbreak bassist Ben Hooper. Their success led them to play the St Pete Bike Fest, opening for Molly Hatchet, Gibtown Bike Fest and a short tour with Dokken guitarist George Lynch, and Terry Ilous of XYZ.
Shortly after Tyler, Sam and Ben departed that band, they joined forces with drummer John Young for what was supposed to be a one night only gig that by the end of the night became Heartbreak Boulevard.
Within weeks Heartbreak was booked to perform on the Rise of the Decades tour, which pairs up-and-coming musicians with seasoned professionals. The band ended up back on the road with George and Terry for several more dates and also had the good fortune to back Anthony Corder, the voice of Tora Tora, on the tour.
Heartbreak Boulevard performs songs by the biggest names in hair metal like Skid Row, Guns & Roses, Dokken and Def Leppard, but also love to showcase music by more obscure bands like the Killer Dwarfs, Kix and Firehouse. The band consistently delivers a high energy rock and roll show to concertgoers and fans can expect an ever changing set list, with some solid audience favorites sprinkled in.
