About this Event
Heart Space is a healing circle that provides a space for Black folks to decompress and connect. It’s time for us to have the conversation about working from the inside out and get to know and heal your inner child(ren). This session will be led by Shawn J. Moore and Ulester Douglas.
Shawn J. Moore (he/him/his)- Residing at the intersection of leadership and mindfulness, Shawn J. Moore creates sacred spaces for stillness and self-inquiry to help social impact leaders align their strengths, intentions, and impact. Through his integrative approach, he holds transformative containers for self-renewal, personal discovery, and capacity-building that ease clients on their journey towards peace, clarity, and freedom. Shawn is committed to empowering change-makers to become embodied leaders – unified in mind, body, and heart – with the tools to mindfully pause, reconnect to their inner knowing, make strengths-driven decisions, and lead the change they believe the world needs. Shawn has an intuitive way of weaving all that he has learned on his path to help those on the inner journey of discovery – including meditation, restorative yoga, sound healing, yoga nidra, and coaching.
Ulester Douglas is a social justice advocate, psychotherapist, former executive, and a nationally recognized leader in the movement to end violence against women. He was also an adjunct professor at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Ulester has received numerous honors and awards including a National Institute of Mental Health Fellowship, and the National Black Herstory Task Force Comrade Salute Award in 2004. In 2010 he was invited to the White House to help commemorate the launch of the Obama administration’s domestic violence initiatives. Ulester has provided consultation, training, and keynote presentations in 40-plus states, Europe and the Caribbean, to community-based organizations, universities, corporations and government agencies including the U.S. Departments of Defense and State. He has been interviewed by national and international media including CNN and The New York Times. Ulester has authored and co-authored articles and curricula on family violence and other social justice issues including the peer-reviewed journal article “Deconstructing Male Violence Against Women: The Men Stopping Violence Community Accountability Model.” Ulester hails from the Caribbean island of St. Kitts and is a proud Michigan Wolverine.
