Hear Her, Honor Her: A Film Screening for Black Maternal Health Week

The event will feature a screening of Listen to Me, a powerful documentary that centers the voices of Black women and birthing people as they navigate pregnancy, birth, and care in America. Told through first-person stories, the film highlights the profound racial disparities in maternal health while honoring the strength, grief, joy, and resilience of those sharing their experiences.

Following the screening, attendees will hear from maternal health leaders and public health experts during a panel discussion exploring the structural and social factors that shape Black maternal health outcomes. The conversation will focus on accountability, community-centered care, and the actions needed to support safer, more equitable experiences for Black birthing people.

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in audience Q&A, share reflections, and learn about resources available to support Black maternal health in Maryland.

This event is open to anyone who cares about maternal health, including students, healthcare providers, public health professionals, advocates, and community members. Black women in the United States continue to face significantly higher risks during pregnancy and childbirth, making spaces for listening, learning, and collective action more important than ever.
