Healthy City, Healthy Neighborhoods: Can Detroit Build a Healthier Future?
About this Event
What does it actually take to make a city healthy?
In Detroit, the answer goes far beyond hospitals and doctors. The quality of the water we drink, the homes we live in, the food we can access, the safety of our neighborhoods, and the environment around us all fundamentally shape our health.
True to The Common Table's mission of building spaces for dialogue around shared issues, we are bringing together diverse voices to explore the intersection of urban life and public health. Join public health researcher and community advocate Dr. Laprisha Berry Daniels for an intimate and provocative conversation about the future of health in Detroit.
She will explore a simple but powerful idea: health begins long before we enter a hospital. Together, we’ll ask a bigger question: Can we build a healthier city by changing the conditions in which people live?
Expect an honest conversation, real-world perspectives, an interactive Q&A, and meaningful networking with people working to make Detroit a healthier place.
Featured Host — Dr. Laprisha Berry Daniels: Dr. Daniels is a Detroit-native public health expert, veteran educator, and Executive Director of Detroit Community-Academic Urban Research Center (Detroit URC). With over two decades of experience working at the intersection of urban housing, environmental justice, and community health in Wayne County, she brings a deeply grounded, practical perspective to how neighborhood conditions directly impact human health.
