About this Event
Join us on Tuesday, October 28, at 7:00 p.m (EST) at the Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre (290 Lisgar Street) for
In our highly visual culture, we sometimes forget that the city reverberates with sound and music that provoke emotional responses and provide the rhythm to our daily lives. What kinds of soundmarks (sounds akin to landmarks) characterize Ottawa? How does music mark celebration, protest and cultural identity in our city? And how might listening help us to think about how we experience place, history, power and politics in the city through music and the soundscape?
Co-presented by Carleton University and the Research Centre for Music, Sound, and Society in Canada, this panel discussion will feature Carleton faculty Dr. Peter Coffman (Art and Architectural History) and Dr. Tonya Davidson (Sociology), Gale Franklin (PhD candidate, Canadian Studies), Dr. Allyson Rogers (postdoctoral fellow and leader of historical walking tours) and artist Jaime Morse (founder of Indigenous Walks).
Dr. Ellen Waterman (Music) will moderate the conversation. Register here.
