Healing the Legacy: Fatherhood, Identity, and Emotional Wellness

Speaker Bio

Perry Goins III is an Associate Licensed Counselor, speaker, and community advocate

committed to helping individuals become the best version of themselves. He holds an

Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Ed.S. degree in Counseling and currently

practices under the supervision of Mrs. Fanicy Sears at eMotion Therapy. Perry specializes

in working with men, couples, and individuals navigating identity, relationships, and life

transitions. His work centers around creating safe, culturally responsive spaces where

people can engage in honest conversations, process emotional experiences, and begin their

healing journey. In addition to his clinical work, Perry serves in a leadership role within the

Alabama Department of Mental Health, where he leads sta development and training

initiatives across multiple facilities. Through his message and platform, Perry is passionate

about breaking generational cycles, redefining fatherhood, and empowering individuals to

embrace growth, accountability, and purpose. His signature message encourages all to “Go

Be Great.”

Presentation Objectives

  1. Understand the unique mental health challenges faced by Black fathers
  2. Recognize the impact of generational trauma and societal expectations on fatherhood
  3. Identify barriers that prevent Black men from seeking mental health support
  4. Explore healthy coping strategies and emotional regulation tools
  5. Gain practical ways to strengthen father-child relationships
  6. Reframe vulnerability as strength in leadership and fatherhood

Presentation Goals

  1. Normalize mental health conversations among Black men and fathers
  2. Encourage help-seeking behavior and reduce stigma
