On September 3, 2025, Wisdom Institute and Everyone Counts Detroit Coalition are gathering at the Michigan State Capitol to advocate to uphold Healing Justice by advancing Reproductive Justice through policies that ensure access to clean affordable water, a statewide right to counsel, maternal health, bodily autonomy, and voter rights.On this Healing Justice Day at the Capitol Advocacy Day, we call on Michigan lawmakers to take bold action on:
Clean, Affordable Water – Safe and accessible water is a human right and an essential condition for reproductive and community well-being. We demand policies that ensure clean, affordable drinking water for all.
Statewide Right to Counsel – Legal representation is critical in protecting the housing, family, and bodily autonomy of marginalized communities. We urge the introduction and passage of a statewide right to counsel to protect those facing eviction.
Maternal Health (Birthing and Postpartum Rights) – Every birthing person deserves respectful, culturally competent, and accessible maternal healthcare. We seek legislative action to expand birthing options, protect midwifery and doula services, and address racial disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes.
Voter Rights – Our political power is central to shaping policies that affect our lives. We demand protections against voter suppression and the expansion of accessible, equitable voting rights for all Michiganders.
Guided by the principles of Healing Justice, we stand in unwavering commitment to policies that affirm our dignity, health, and right to self-determination. We call on our elected officials to listen to our voices and take action to create a Michigan where all people–including Black women and girls–can thrive.
