Healing After Suicide Loss
About this Event
A guided workshop for people grieving a death by suicide
If someone you love died by suicide, this workshop was made with you in mind, whether the loss was recent or happened many years ago.
Grief after suicide often carries more than sadness. Many people also live with guilt and anger, and with questions that may never be fully answered. Over three hours, we’ll give all of that some room, alongside others who have lost someone to suicide.
Who this is for
People who have lost someone to suicide, at any point in the past. You don’t need to be at a particular stage, and you don’t need to know what you’re feeling. Family, friends, and professionals are welcome too.
What we’ll do together
We’ll move through seven stages of grief, from shock and denial to acceptance and hope, as a way to organize the conversation. Along the way, we’ll make room for guilt, anger, loneliness, and the slow work of rebuilding.
The stages are a map, not a timetable. People move back and forth, revisit stages, or skip some. There is no correct order and no wrong way to grieve.
Alongside each stage, we’ll look at what research has found, so that what you’re feeling has a name and a context. We’ll ask why suicide loss can feel more intense or traumatic than other losses, how stigma and shame keep people silent, and what kind of support helps.
One place to start: 51% of U.S. adults report knowing someone who died by suicide. This grief is often carried in silence, but it is not rare.
You’ll leave with
- Words for what you’ve been carrying, and the knowledge that these responses are common
- A written self-compassion plan in your own words
- One concrete way to honor your loved one
- Grounding statements you can return to
- A clearer picture of what research says helps
If you are in crisis right now, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, 24/7). You can also text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line) or call 911.
