August 20 - 5p.m. - 7p.m.
August 22 - 9a.m. - 12:00p.m.
MEDIUM: Printmaking
Students will learn the basics of linoleum block printing in this 3-day workshop. They will then create a fantastical animal head and tail to print, swap, and share! All experience levels welcome!
Day 1: Learn a brief history of linoleum block printing, practice basic mark-making with V and U gouges with a focus on safety, and printmaking tips. Then brainstorm and design your animal, learn how to transfer it onto your blocks, and begin carving!
Day 2: Print heads and tails and begin designing the front cover for the Heads and Tails book. (You can use your mark-making practice block for the back cover.)
Day 3: Exchange prints and assemble individual accordion books (which we will provide).
COST: $195 GVA Member / $225 Non-member; $40 Material Fee
What is block printmaking? Block Printing is one of the oldest types of printmaking, and has been around for thousands of years. The artist carves an image/pattern/print into a piece of wood, linoleum, rubber, or other materials, covers it in ink, and transfers the image on to paper or fabric. Each print made is unique and one of a kind!
