About this Event
Lindsay Servian is a UK-based contemporary artist whose practice examines how systems, culture, and health shape everyday life through both material and conceptual enquiry.
As part of their MA in Fine Art at Falmouth University, Lindsay has developed Beneath Sweetness—a socially engaged, mixed‑media project exploring the cultural, emotional, and socioeconomic determinants that shape our attachment to sugar. Lindsay’s work frames obesity and overweight as phenomena influenced by obesogenic environments rather than purely biomedical conditions. Through sculpture, image, and text, the exhibition considers sugar’s visibility and concealment, its historical weight, and its continued presence despite widespread awareness of its harms.
Lindsay recently presented their work, in collaboration with Action on Salt & Sugar and the Centre for Public Health and Policy at the Wolfson Institute for Population Health, Queen Mary University of London, at The Neuron Pod in London. We are incredibly fortunate that Lindsay will be presenting their work in the foyer above reception in New County Hall, Truro, following our Discussion Series, offering space to learn, reflect, and share views on how sugar is embedded—culturally, socially, and structurally—in everyday life.
We’re delighted to be hosting this hybrid session and look forward to a thought‑provoking discussion and exhibition of Lindsay’s work.
