HCO & Blackheath Halls orchestra play the music of Ignatius Sancho

Born on a slave ship, brought back to England and given as a servant to a local Greenwich family, Ignatius Sancho rose to become valet to the Duke of Montague, and proprietor of a grocery shop in Westminster. He was a composer and man of letters, corresponding with several important figures of his day. In honour of his time living at nearby Montague House, the park named the Ignatius Sancho Café after him in 2024.
Members of Hackney Community Orchestra and Blackheath Halls Orchestra have come together with other local musicians to play a selection of his music, specially arranged for a small orchestra, in the park he would have frequented in his younger days.
This event is free.
