About this Event
Hays Woods is the city of Pittsburghs newest park, and its second largest at 626 acres. It is the largest new urban park project undertaken east of the Mississippi in 75 years. The park consists mostly of an undeveloped interior woodland where wildlife thrives. The deep glens formed by the 12 streams running throughout the park provide moist lush habitat for unique plants, birds and amphibians. There are four seperate overlooks above the Mongahela which offer views into Hazlewood, Oakland, and Downtown. It is a popular spot for birding and wildlife viewing, and a great low traffic place to hike off the beaten path but still within city limits.
Hays trails are extensive but perhaps intimidating to navigate, so the Park Rangers are here to offer an intro to the park!
Hikes will average around 2 miles long, and last about an hour. The pace will be slow so we have plently of time to stop and and admire the various plants and animals there, as well as the overlook views!
