Hays Woods Nocturnal Animals Hike
About this Event
About Hays: Hays Woods consists of 626 acres of undeveloped forest, meadows, creek glens, and bluffs overlooking the Monongahela. The low traffic trails are great for bird watching, hiking, and mountain biking. Several overlooks provide views as far as Oakland, Downtown, and Homewood.
About the hikes: Mileage will range from 1.5 to 3.0 miles long depending on hiking conditions. Aproximately half of each hike will be on single track trails. Expect around 250 feet elevation change for these routes

October: (15th) Nocturnal Animals (23rd) Owl Prowl
This hike (October 15th) will take place during and after sunset, to look for crepuscular and nocturnal animals. Red light flahslights will be provided!
When: Hikes will take place third Thursdays 6:00-7:30PM, and Friday October 23rd from 6:00-8:00PM for the owl prowl hike.
Where: Hikes start at the Agnew Trailhead Parking Lot. The closest residential address is: 1015 Agnew Road, Pittsburgh PA 15227 The lot is at the end of Agnew Road.
What to bring: Water and sunscreen are a great start. Long pants, closed toed shoes, and bugspray are recommended since some trails are narrow and brushy. Feel free to bring flashlights, but we discourage the use of bright white lights and will use red lamps instead. Dogs are welcome but must stay on leash.
