At an elevation of 1,800 feet, Hawley Bog feels more like the bogs of northern New England than western Massachusetts. This pristine peatland comes alive in summer with orchids (including blooming, grass pink, and fringed), all three of Massachusetts's native insectivorous plants, and a rich community of heath family species that thrive in its cold, acidic conditions. Your naturalist guides will lead you through the ecology of bog habitats and share what we all can do to help preserve these imperiled landscapes. Explore this unique habitat via boardwalk, which allows up close observation of the bog while protecting this fragile ecosystem.
