Join us for a night inside The Deprtford & Millfield Community Centre, for a night of ghost hunting!
This building was once the old Havelock Towers, an overflow for the nearby workhouse, focusing on orphans, offenders and children born in the workhouse.
Once the workhouse closed, the building became a house for unmarried pregnant women.
When the building was extended over the original workhouse yard, it became a community centre. A mysterious stain is said to keep appearing on a carpet, despite being ripped up and replaced on several occasions. Faces are seen by staff at the windows after they’ve locked up the empty building, and doors get heard slamming shut on regular occasions.
The old part of the building still has visible features of the orphanage, such as the punishment cupboards where naughty children were beaten and locked up, and mysterious corridors which lead to nowhere.
The building recently featured on a live ghost hunt with Alan Robson’s Night Owls.
With our high tech equipment, and experiments, we aim to make contact with the spirits of this building and find out some of the answers of this historic building.
