Some of Port Townsend’s best stories aren’t found on the street. They’re waiting behind closed doors.
This October, step beyond our traditional Haunted Walk for a brand-new, extended journey into the darker corners of Port Townsend’s past.
Haunted Histories & Mysteries: Behind Closed Doors takes you deeper into the stories, legends, and colorful characters that have shaped this historic seaport—with special access to spaces and places not normally included on our Haunted Walks.
Led by local historian and storyteller Joyce Hester, this small-group experience will venture beyond the usual route, slipping behind doors, exploring hidden corners of historic buildings, and uncovering a few more layers of Port Townsend’s haunted history along the way.
This limited experience will venture inside some of Port Townsend’s historic spaces, including the Hastings Building, the Mount Baker Block lobby and underground tunnels, and a few other surprises along the way.
And because every good ghost story deserves a proper ending, we’ll finish at The Old Whiskey Mill for a drink, snacks, and a few final tales.

Space is extremely limited for this one-time tour, and advance tickets are required.
BEFORE YOU JOIN US
• Ages 16+ recommended. This experience includes adult themes and storytelling that may not be suitable for younger children.
• Dress for the weather. The tour includes both indoor and outdoor portions, so come prepared for October in the Pacific Northwest and wear comfortable walking shoes.
• Please arrive a few minutes early for check-in. Tour departure details will be provided to ticket holders.
• Respect the spaces we visit. We’ve been generously granted access to historic buildings and spaces along the route. Please stay with the group, follow your guide’s instructions, and be respectful of the properties we’re lucky enough to explore.
• Accessibility: Due to stairs, uneven surfaces, historic buildings, and the nature of the route, this experience is not ADA accessible.
Behind Closed Doors is a special, one-time extension of our traditional Haunted Histories & Mysteries walking tours. We’re still putting the finishing touches on a few of the surprises along the way—because some doors are better left closed until the time is right.
