The Grand Midway Hotel in Windber, Pennsylvania began its life in the late 1880s as a hotel beside the railroad tracks, built to house the coal miners pouring into the region. By the 1920s it had become a secret brothel. Then a funeral parlour. Then a bar. Then it was abandoned entirely.
In 2000, a new owner bought the building on eBay. The sellers never mentioned the ghosts. During renovations, a man covered in soot and dressed in mining overalls was seen walking the second-floor hallway before vanishing around a corner. A guest who left flowers in the dining room flew home to California, only to wake up to a figure in mining gear standing at the foot of her bed. He said "Thank you" and disappeared.
In 1911, eighteen-year-old Martha Selinsky was watching fireworks from the second-floor porch when a steel pipe struck her in the throat and killed her. The local fire company covered it up for decades. Martha never left. Her apparition has been seen in the windows and wandering the hallways ever since.
The roof holds the Guinness World Record for the world's largest Ouija board. The Canopy Room, directly below it, is home to a spirit that physically attacks anyone who tries to use one.
Throughout the building, furniture is thrown across rooms, objects rearrange themselves overnight, cold spots drift through empty corridors, and a bouncing ball is heard echoing from a sealed storage room. No ball has ever been found.
