Haunt the Civic Center: Scarecrow ContestScarecrows are on display for the whole month of October.
• ELIGIBILITY:
The Moses Lake Museum & Art Center’s Scarecrow Contest is open to all ages, individuals, clubs/non-profits, and businesses. Each individual or group may only enter one time. Children (under the age of 18) will require a parent/guardian’s signature to enter.
• ENTRY CATEGORIES:
Child* (10 years and under)
Youth (11-17 years old)
Adult (18+)
Group or Business
* An adult may assist a young child, but the child must complete the majority of the work.
• CONSTRUCTION:
o Scarecrow must be durable and be able to stand on its own.
o All decorations must be firmly attached to the scarecrow.
o No sharp blades or cutting edges.
o Minimum height – 3 feet. Maximum height – 7 feet
o The Museum reserves the right to modify or remove any entries that do not maintain their ability to be displayed.
o All entries must be hand-made.
o Sometimes, scarecrows/parts of scarecrows are lost, stolen, or damaged. Do not put anything on your scarecrow that is highly valued or of great importance. You assume all responsibility for your scarecrow and its pieces.
• SIGNS:
As part of your display, attach a sign (11”x17” maximum) to your scarecrow that includes the title, your name or group name, and your entry category. This will help your friends and family find your scarecrow and vote for the people’s choice award.
• THEMES:
o The scarecrow contest is family-friendly. Entries may be creepy but not gruesome or bloody. The Museum reserves the right to disqualify entries that they feel are in bad taste or not family-friendly.
o No defamatory content, advertising, or political statements. (Note: business entries may have advertising)
o Scarecrows may be whimsical, humorous, mischievous, lovable, sad, weird, eerie, nerdy, etc. – use your imagination!
• DELIVERY:
Delivery dates are September 23 through September 30 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with no deliveries on September 29. If you cannot deliver your scarecrow during these times, please contact us at 509-764-3830 to make other arrangements. The delivery location is the Moses Lake Civic Center at 401 S. Balsam St. Moses Lake.
• DISPLAY:
Scarecrows will be displayed in the Moses Lake Civic Center October 1-31, 2024.
• JUDGING and PUBLIC VOTE:
The judging and voting for all categories will occur throughout October. Ballots will be in the Museum during operating hours. Only one vote per person.
• AWARDS:
1st place: $30.00 gift card in each category
2nd place: $15.00 gift card in each category
3rd place: $5.00 gift card in each category
Staff Pick Award: $50.00 gift card
• WINNERS:
Winning entries will be announced on November 1 by 5 p.m.
• PICK UP:
Entries must be picked up between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on November 1-8 (no pickup on November 3). If you cannot come during these dates, please call us at 509-764-3830 to make other arrangements. After this time, any entries remaining will become the property of the City of Moses Lake Museum & Art Center and will be disposed of accordingly.
