Presented by: Leon Briggs

Leon’s Seneca name is Hoya’degay hus, meaning "he helps always." His English name is Leon Sam Briggs, and he is an enrolled member of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation, Hawk Clan, from the Tonawanda Seneca Territory—proudly known as the Keepers of the Western Door. Join Leon Briggs for an insightful presentation on the Haudenosaunee and the teachings of the Seven Generations. Leon will share a brief history of where the Haudenosaunee have come from, where they stand today, and the challenges and triumphs of being Indigenous in the modern world. He will also explore the Land Back movement. A traditional longhouse member, Leon is a historical reproduction specialist and craftsman, replicating museum pieces, movie artifacts, and collectors' items. Beyond his craftsmanship, he is passionate about teaching Indigenous knowledge, particularly focusing on plants and food sovereignty. Tickets are available by calling the Dietrich at 570-836-1022 x3 or at the Dietrich’s ticket booth while they last.
