A beginner Hatha yoga flow class is designed to introduce newcomers to the basics of yoga, focusing on gentle movements, breath control, and simple postures. The class typically begins with a short meditation or breathing exercise to center the mind and body. Andrea will guide the class through a series of foundational poses, such as Mountain Pose, Downward-Facing Dog, and Warrior I, II and III, transitioning from one posture to the next, while each pose maybe held for a few breaths to build strength and flexibility while promoting mindfulness and awareness.
The flow between poses is slow and deliberate, allowing students to understand alignment and technique. The class emphasizes breath awareness, encouraging participants to synchronize their movements with deep, controlled breathing (often called “ujjayi” breath). Modifications and props, like blocks or straps, are available to use when needed.
The session typically ends with a cooling down sequence, including seated stretches and a final relaxation pose - Savasana, where students lie down and focus on releasing any remaining tension. Throughout the class, the atmosphere is calm and supportive, making it an accessible entry point for anyone new to yoga.
