Harvesting Heritage is a series dedicated to the past, present, and future of Black foodways in South Carolina. This summer, we are embarking on our third year of programming, exploring the creativity, innovation, and artistry inherent in Black cultural traditions and the people and stories that carry these traditions forward.
On Aug. 29, Harvesting Heritage will celebrate the power of plants to connect us – through topiary arts, seed saving projects, land stewardship, sustainable food pathways, and community farms, gardens, and nurseries. Please join us for our 12th Harvesting Heritage program and our 3rd annual crab crack.
The evening will include:
6:00 p.m.: Doors open to the museum
6:30 p.m.: A discussion moderated by Chef Amethyst Ganaway and featuring award-winning topiary artist, Michael P. Gibson; herbalist, farmer, educator, and owner of Joyful Soul Nursery, Lisa O. Kershaw; and Christina Smith-Galloway, an educator and committed land steward and community grower.
7:30 p.m.: Crab Crack reception with South Carolina blue crabs by Tater’s Lowcountry Kitchen & Catering.
Blackberries, muscadines, and figs provided by Certified SC Grown.
Handcrafted cocktails/mocktails by Will Green, Columbia bartender and co-owner of The Hoot (each guest will receive one drink ticket – all other drinks available for purchase)
