Celebrating the Harvest of Rice and Other Traditional Crops of the Anishinaabe

Join us at The Botanic Garden at Historic Barns Park for a fantastic event celebrating the bountiful harvest of rice and other traditional crops of the Anishinaabe people. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of the Anishinaabe as we come together to honor and appreciate the importance of these crops.

Tera John will guide us through the traditional rice harvest. Starting with its natural range and relevance within the Anishinabek Heritage through its current range and cultivation. She will take us through the lifecycle of wild rice, its ecological value, and potential as a cultivated "wild crop", In addition to wild rice, Tera will share the stories behind many other wild crafted crops and the work being done at the Food Sovereignty Garden and how you can help our community grow and harvest traditional crops like Bear Island Corn and ancient squashes. Included in the course fee is seeds for you to grow in your own garden next year.
