A Powerful Evening of Faith, Unity, and Cultural Celebration
The community is invited to gather for the annual Harry C. Tartt Ecumenical Service, taking place on Wednesday, June 17th at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church as part of the Freedom Week 2026 observance.
This meaningful service honors the enduring spiritual legacy of African American communities while commemorating the life and impact of Harry C. Tartt, a respected civil rights leader whose commitment to justice and equality continues to inspire.
The evening will feature Rev. Kordell Sims as the keynote speaker, delivering a message centered on faith, freedom, and collective responsibility. Known for his dynamic preaching and community leadership, Rev. Sims is expected to bring a powerful and timely word.
Attendees will also be uplifted by special guest entertainment from the Koast Konnect Youth Community Choir, whose performances promise to bring energy, inspiration, and a celebration of culture through music.
The ecumenical service will include participation from clergy across multiple denominations, along with moments of worship, prayer, and reflections on freedom and justice—creating a space for unity, remembrance, and renewed purpose.
“This service continues to be a cornerstone of Freedom Week, bringing people together across faiths and generations,” said Bobby Hudson III, Executive Director of the Griots Society. “It’s a time to honor our history, celebrate our culture, and recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of justice.”
The event is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend and take part in this inspiring evening of faith and community.
