ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
This is an informative, fun, and “hands out” 3 hr workshop with two 15 min breaks. You’ll learn harmony driven vocal warmups and exercises that tune you into your own instrument and the voices of others and the basic principles of harmony, as well as some helpful solfège and interval training.
As a group you’ll work on listening to your own voice, tuning into the voices of others, and working to blend as an ensemble. You’ll learn specific styles and skills for harmonizing in a musical theater ensemble, and the group will workshop small sections of popular musical theater songs in 2-3 part harmony.
WHO IS THIS FOR?
- Any singer 16+ who already has a good sense of pitch, but struggles to learn harmonies or stay on their harmonies in an ensemble setting
- Any singer who wants to learn more about the music theory and principles of harmony
- Musical theater performers wanting to level up their singing with ensembles or choruses on stage
MEET THE INSTRUCTOR:
Ginna Kayser (she/her/they/them) is a Portland-based musician with nearly 20 years of formal singing experience and training. Her musical education ranges from classical choir and solo work to collegiate acapella groups to barbershop choruses and quartets. Along with fellow choir and chorus members, she has brought her singing around the world, including tours in New Orleans, Europe, and China to competitions in Arkansas, Arizona, and Kansas. Ginna’s teaching style is energetic, passionate, and vivacious, yet she brings patience and understanding to a wide variety of musical skill sets. You can look forward to feeling more confident as a harmony singer after participating in her upcoming workshop!
