About this Event
HARMOMNI™ in Community & Service is an educational workshop designed to prepare volunteers and nonprofit teams to serve across generations with awareness and dignity.
In today’s community spaces, volunteers may serve older adults, youth, families, or multigenerational households. Differences in age, experience, communication style, and expectations can either strengthen connection or quietly create tension.
This session explores how generational experiences influence:
- Communication tone and expectations
- Assumptions about age and ability
- Boundaries and burnout in service roles
- Respectful language across generations
- Collaboration between long-standing volunteers and newer team members
Participants will also engage in a focused discussion on age-based communication patterns, including Elderspeak toward older adults and dismissive language toward younger volunteers. The goal is not to police language, but to build awareness and strengthen mutual respect.
Through teaching, reflection, and structured dialogue, this training supports volunteers in building confidence, clarity, and connection in the communities they serve.
Starts with a question. Ends with connection.
