About this Event

The Capital Area Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (CAS-NCNW) in Raleigh, NC, is proud to host the 21st Annual Harambee Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon in recognition of Black History Month and to honor outstanding community service. This year's theme, Empowering Women: Celebrating Community Change Agents", highlights the spirit of resilience and unity in addressing our community's growing challenges and needs. Inspired by Harambee, a Kenyan tradition started in 1963 celebrating community and togetherness, this event embodies the collective action and shared purpose that drive our mission. As our signature fundraiser, the luncheon directly supports CAS-NCNW's outreach programs in the greater Raleigh area.

We will honor the following Women of Excellence for their tireless work and contributions in the community: Carolyn A. Stokes, MP/PA-C, Dr. Bobbie Richardson, ED. D, Dr. Valencia Hicks-Harris, PhD. Our keynote speaker will soon be announced.

The National Council of Negro Women was established in 1935 by Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune with the mission to advance the opportunities and the quality of life for African American women, their families, and communities.

The Capital Area Section was founded in February 1999 under the leadership of Christine B. Jones and Frances Bethea Grant. Our local community outreach programs are grounded on the foundation of critical concerns that are our Core Four initiatives: Economic Empowerment & Entrepreneurship, Health Equity, Social Justice, and STEAM & Education. We also support local organizations such as the Women's Center, Loaves and Fishes, and the Raleigh Rescue Mission.

The Capital Area Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit the mission and continuous work of the CAS-NCNW.
